Anthems

Anthems are everywhere. I personally love some of those 80's power ballads, they get me going. in Ireland our rugby anthem is a joint effort by north and south (its a unified team too) and it goes by the name of 'ireland's call'
its quite powerful as an anthem in landsdown road (or croke park these days) when it is sung out by 80,000 fans.

but what is our own personal anthem? what song is our identity?

David's Psalm 21 is his anthem. it is a post war song, and he has it signed to be sung at dawn. Its the song that shows his heart and his dependence and thankfulness to God. As king, David faced many wars, and he was always sure to show that his strength lay in God and not in men. Throughout the OT Israel's enemies were always looking for the secret to their strength (samson and delilah being one example) but the secret is exposed by david in the first line of the psalm.

O LORD, the king rejoices in your strength.
How great is his joy in the victories you give!

This is a constant challenge to me, that I need to rely on God's strength for the victories I'm working towards and not rely on my own independence. Its a challenge, but the victories we receive when we rely on God give us great Joy as we see above.
